COMEDIAN GEORGE LOPEZ TO HOST “NFL OPENING KICKOFF” PRESENTED BY AMERIQUEST MORTGAGE COMPANY,
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 FROM 8-9:00 PM ET ON ABC

Comedian George Lopez, the co-creator, writer, producer and star of the top-rated sitcom, “George Lopez,” (premiering Tues., Sept. 28, 8:30-9:00 PM) on the ABC Television Network, will serve as host of “NFL Opening Kickoff” presented by Ameriquest Mortgage Company, the season-opening pregame show on September 9, from 8-9:00 PM ET on ABC.

"NFL Opening Kickoff" presented by Ameriquest Mortgage Company will air from 8-9:00 PM (ET) on ABC and lead into the season opener between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts - a rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game (ABC, 9:00 PM ET).  The show will air following the game in the Rocky Mountain and West Coast time zones.

“NFL Opening Kickoff” presented by Ameriquest Mortgage Company will salute the Super Bowl champion Patriots, take viewers into both teams’ locker rooms and include performances from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachussetts by the BOSTON POPS, MARY J. BLIGE, DESTINY’S CHILD, ELTON JOHN, TOBY KEITH and LENNY KRAVITZJESSICA SIMPSON will perform from Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville, Florida, site of Super Bowl XXXIX.

Lopez, who also stars in “The George Lopez Christmas Movie,” airing this season on ABC, is the host of the Latin Grammy Awards.  In May 2004, his autobiography, Why You Crying?,” was released by Simon & Schuster and entered the New York Times bestseller list in the top 20. The book was co-written by Emmy Award-winning writer and sportscaster Armen Keteyian. Lopez’s live comedy concert special, “George Lopez: Why You Crying?,” debuted on Showtime in spring 2004.

A cast member and commentator for HBO’s hit sports show, “Inside the NFL,” for the 2003-04 football season, Lopez’s other television credits include appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The View,” “Good Morning America” and “Live with Regis and Kelly,” among others.

In 2001 Lopez hosted a major morning radio show for Clear Channel Communications in Los Angeles. He was the first Latino to headline a keystone morning radio slot on an English-language station in L.A., the nation’s top radio market. He received the 2003 Imagen Vision Award, the 2003 Latino Spirit Award for Excellence in Television and the National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact Award.

A native of Los Angeles who grew up in the San Fernando Valley’s Mission Hills, Lopez devotes much time to the community. His charity, The George & Ann Lopez-Richie Alarcon CARE Foundation, provides significant community and arts resources for education. He received the Manny Mota Foundation Community Spirit Award and was named Honorary Mayor of Los Angeles for his extensive fundraising efforts benefiting earthquake victims in El Salvador and Guatemala. In February 2004, he was presented with an Artist of the Year and Humanitarian Award by Harvard University.
