WHAT: New York City’s top youth flag football teams will compete for the title of New York City Champions at the 1997 NEW YORK JETS NFL C.I.T.Y. (Challenge and Inspire Today’s Youth) FLAG FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. One hundred boys and girls ages 8-16 will represent the top squads from the 400 teams (and 4,000 players) that competed in New York’s C.I.T.Y. Flag Football Leagues this fall. All leagues were run locally by the NEW YORK POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE.

All participants will receive trophies. The winners receive NFL C.I.T.Y. Football championship trophies, while the runners-up receive borough championship awards.

NFL C.I.T.Y. Football provides structured recreational football programs to children who live in "central-city" neighborhoods at no cost. C.I.T.Y. Football is part of the NFL’s "Play Football" initiative to create exciting ways for even more kids to play, watch and experience the game of football. Fans may call 1-800-NFL-SNAP for more information on all NFL "Play Football" programs.
