NEW YORK, NY - - The 1997 World League season will truly be seen around the world via the official Internet site of the World League at www.worldleague.com. The multimedia site will showcase live video of FXs broadcast of the World League London Monarchs, marking the first time that football action will be broadcast live on the Internet.
Worldleague.com, produced by NFL Interactive, FOX and leading Internet producer Starwave, will initially feature FXs live video coverage from the London Monarchs weekly games. Users also can listen to audio play-by-play from FXs coverage of all 30 regular season games, as well as access archives of those games. AudioNet will provide the distribution of the video and audio feeds, which also can be accessed on their web site at www.audionet.com.
With more than 250 players from 16 different countries participating in the Worid League (April 12 - June 22), the site enables fans to follow their favorite players and teams with in-depth information including game previews and recaps, individual player profiles, stats, plus up-to-the-minute news from around the league. The six teams also will have their own individual areas within Worldleague.com.
"In addition to World League action televised in more than 55 countries, this presence on the Internet enables fans everywhere to directly interact with the league and its diverse group of players," said Ann Kirschner, vice president, NFL Interactive. "From a production standpoint, we are excited to offer the live video feed on a trial basis, allowing the NFL and FOX to test new programming opportunities online.
The World League, in its third year as a joint venture between the NFL and FOX, will showcase action from the six teams comprising the league, the Amsterdam Admirals, Barcelona Dragons, Frankfurt Galaxy, London Monarchs, Rhein Fire and Scottish Claymores. World League regular-season games will be televised in the United States on FX, general entertainment and sports basic cable network from FOX Television and Liberty Media, as well as on DIRECTV. World Bowl 97, which will be held on Sunday, June 22, will be televised on FOX.
