NFL LAUNCHES FAN-VOTED ‘All-HEART’ PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
NFL.COM ALL-HEART PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD BEGINS THIS SEASON

NEW YORK, AUG. 24, 2000 The National Football League encourages fans to vote online for a key player each week as the league kicks off its new "NFL.com All-Heart Player of the Week" award.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 5, fans can vote for the player whose gritty performance went beyond headlines and stats that week. Fans will vote by logging on to NFL.com and selecting a player from the NFL’s official weekly list of top contenders. The player with the most votes wins the award plus a "hearty" prize for his local community.

Fan voting for the weekly award continues every Tuesday through Thursday during the regular season. The winning player will be announced every Thursday on NFL.com. Fans who vote each week are automatically entered into a sweepstakes that will send one lucky winner and a guest to Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, FL. Twenty-five second prize winners will each receive a Joe Montana autographed official NFL football.

NFL Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow, whose memorable performance in the 1982 Miami vs. San Diego playoff game, represents the type of "all-heart" player the award was designed to recognize, was in New York to help introduce the award.

The NFL.com All Heart Player of the Week award is part of the NFL Cholesterol Screen Team, initiated by the NFL along with the American College of Cardiology and Merck & Co., Inc. NFL formed the team to educate NFL fans about the dangers of high cholesterol and heart disease and the importance of regular cholesterol tests. A cholesterol test is quick and easy and can help determine a person’s risk for heart disease.

Each week, the NFL Cholesterol Screen Team will donate hundreds of free cholesterol screenings in recognition of the winner’s all heart performance to that player’s community. Fans can complete an online quiz to learn their risk for heart disease on NFL.com and gain an additional entry into the sweepstakes.

Full sweepstakes rules will be available at NFL.com.
