Unique Alliance Integrates Lycos into Television and Online Programming Leading to Super Bowl XXXIII NFL and Lycos to Share in Advertising Revenue and Promotional Opportunities

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- December 31, 1998 – The National Football League (NFL) and Lycos, Inc. (NASDAQ: LCOS), the second most visited hub on the Internet and the world’s largest online community, today announced that they have jointly designed and built the official Web site for Super Bowl XXXIII. Superbowl.com, which is now available, is expected to attract many of the 160 million football fans in the United States and millions more throughout the world and features interactive, up-to-date content on the game, the players and the stories behind the premier sporting event of the year. The site, located at http://www.superbowl.com, is the only NFL-sanctioned Super Bowl Web site.

As part of this first-of-a-kind alliance, Lycos will be featured in television programming leading up to the Super Bowl including the NFL’s "Under the Helmet" (airs at 2 pm EST on Saturday, January 30 on Fox TV) and the "NFL All-Star Comedy Blitz" (airs at 8 pm EST on Saturday, January 30 on CBS TV). Lycos advertising will run during the "Road to the Super Bowl" show (airs at 5 pm EST on Saturday January 30 on Fox TV) and a Lycos ad will be included in the official Super Bowl XXXIII program. Additional TV advertising will promote the official Super Bowl site on CBS, ABC and Fox throughout the playoffs.

Lycos will sell advertising sponsorships on the Superbowl.com site and the resulting revenues will be shared with the NFL.

The Superbowl.com site will include:

Lycos will also be present at the NFL Experience, the league’s interactive theme park in South Florida during the week prior to the Super Bowl. Lycos will provide free access to the Web for fans to check out the Superbowl.com site on-the-spot. Additionally, Lycos will offer free e-mail accounts to fans in attendance so they can send e-mail greetings to family, friends and co-workers who could not attend the Super Bowl.
