NFL LAUNCHES HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL WEB SITE: "NFLHS.COM"

As part of its program to support youth football, the NFL has launched a new web site – nflhs.com – devoted to the high school game.

The site is designed to serve as a resource on all aspects of high school football for players, coaches, officials, parents and fans.

"The overwhelming majority of NFL players have at least one thing in common," says NFL Commissioner PAUL TAGLIABUE, "and that is a love of football that goes back to their high school days.

"We recognize that the Internet is a key way to reach today’s generation of high school players and coaches, and we hope nflhs.com helps everyone associated with the high school game enjoy it even more."

The site includes the following sections:

Coaches Corner

Contains a wealth of information for high school and youth coaches and is divided into two sub-sections.

Interactive Playbook contains diagrams of more than 200 plays for 11-man, 8-man and 6-man football, plus information on practice drills.

Tips, Skills & Drills features NFL, college and high school coaches discussing the fundamentals of football, team organization, motivational techniques and basic game strategies and philosophy.

Weekly Coaches’ Spotlight presents an NFL coach commenting on a specific facet of the game.

News & Notes

Updated daily, this section highlights news and notes about high school teams on a state-by-state basis.

Players Corner

An NFL player is featured weekly reflecting on high school football.

Weekly excerpts from Atlanta Falcons defensive end PELLOM MC DANIELS’ book, "So, You Want to be a Pro?", focusing on the importance of education, career planning, nutrition and discipline.

Officials Corner

Produced in association with the National Association of Sports Officials, this section contains officiating-related stories and information on how to become an official.

Other parts of the site include information on college football eligibility requirements, football safety and health, and other aspects of high school football, such as cheerleading and band.

Nflhs.com is funded by the NFL Youth Football Fund, which was created in 1998 by the NFL and the NFL Players Association to support youth football initiatives.
