SUPERBOWL.COM TO OFFER INTERACTIVE FOOTBALL GAMES AND COLLECTIBLE PLAYOFF THINGS TO KICKOFF THE DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS

NEW YORK, NY and NEWTON, MA, January 11, 1999 – The National Football League (www.nfl.com), Lycos (www.lycos.com) and ThingWorld.com (www.thingworld.com) are adding an exciting new dimension to Superbowl.com, the only NFL-sanctioned Web site for Super Bowl XXXIII and the 1999 NFL playoffs. The three companies introduce the Official 1999 Superbowl.com Screensaver and other collectible multimedia football Things for NFL fans.

Fans can take, collect and play interactive football games and grab official NFL and team logos and helmets that can double as screen savers or come alive with animation, sound and video on a personal home page. New official and copyrighted content, including a streaming media Thing dubbed "NFL Films Super Bowl Theater," containing video highlights from each playoff game, will launch on a regular basis between now and Super Bowl Sunday.

Fans can now experience their ultimate football dreams. In one Thing football game, fans can elude defenders while throwing a touchdown pass and can control a running back who dodges through the defense to run for pay dirt. In another game, users can choreograph an end zone dance by placing buttons for each dance instruction in a sequence that results in the dance of a scoring football player beneath the goal posts.

Things are dynamic, self-contained multimedia experiences that can be animated scenes and characters, puzzles, games, Digital Collectiblesä , point-of-purchase, membership and associates program buttons, digital kiosks, team logos and more. In addition to brand-building functionality and interactivity, Things have unique properties, including the ability to lock, copyright, collect, and control access and brand context. With these capabilities, the NFL can offer secure Digital Collectibles™ that can animate, play games, drive traffic and build brand while also engaging fans directly online.

"We are extremely pleased to join with Lycos and ThingWorld.com to provide our fans with a closer connection to this year’s playoffs. With Super Bowl Things," stated Ann Kirschner, vice president of NFL Interactive, "a fan in Minneapolis, Atlanta or Denver can save one of the official NFL interactive games as a screen saver or collect an official digital logo from one’s favorite team. Things clearly will enable us to get closer to the fan and vice versa."

Things Build Brand and Secure Intellectual Property for the NFL Online – Fans Get Bona Fide Collectibles

For the first time, fans of professional football are able to interact with bona fide content from the most popular professional sports league—while also collecting official Digital Collectibles from the playoffs and their favorite teams. For the NFL, Things provide a means to advertise the league in an increasingly wired generation since any Thing carrying the "Feel the Power" message can travel to various Web destinations. With the www.superbowl.com URL embedded in each Thing, traffic and awareness are generated for the NFL sanctioned Web site.

"As the host of the official Web site of the Super Bowl, we are pleased to put even more entertainment content onto the site by adding Things," said Jan Horsfall, vice president of marketing, Lycos, Inc. "While fans visit Superbowl.com, whether it’s to monitor scores, highlights or events involving their favorite teams or to participate in sweepstakes and contests, they can now also try their hands at some really great games and take away official collectibles that are sanctioned by the NFL. We believe that the NFL, ThingWorld and Lycos have delivered the most powerful branded online experience available to today’s NFL fan."
