RECORD TRAFFIC AND PAGE VIEWS IN AUGUST
AS TOP SPORTS LEAGUE WEBSITE

More Than Three Times as Many Page Views as MLB and
Five Times as Many as NBA During Their Peak Months

 

Like the NFL season, the NFL Internet Network is off to an exciting start. The NFL Internet Network, comprised of NFL.COM and the NFL team sites, is easily the most-visited sports league site, according to August data from Nielsen/NetRatings. The report includes both home and work Internet use.

The NFL Internet Network recorded its highest traffic in August 2000 with 4.78 million unique visitors and 149,612,000 page views. The record came at a time when teams were in training camp, one month before the start of the season.

Major League Baseball recorded its high in July 2000 (the month of All-Star game) with 2.08 million visitors and 41,775,000 page views. The NBA, meanwhile, hit its peak during its playoffs in June 2000 with 1.99 million unique visitors and 28,984,000 page views.

Compared to overall sports sites, NFL.com, alone, had more page views (103,357,000) than CBS Sportsline.com, which recorded 95,013,000, and 5.31 million unique visitors. ESPN.com remained on top with 7.42 million unique visitors and 277,996,000 page views.
