NFL LAUNCHES NFL WIRELESS TO CONNECT WITH FANS
ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ON ANY DEVICE

The National Football League, the sports new media leader, today launched a broad wireless strategy, including NFL Wireless (wireless.nfl.com), the first mobile Web-based service aimed at reaching football fans anytime, anywhere and on any device.

The NFL, its teams, and even in its stadiums will deliver the latest NFL scores, news and schedules on Web-enabled devices such as cell phones, PDAs (personal digital assistants), RIMs (two-way paging devices) and pagers.

NFL Wireless provides mobile fans with personalized alerts, automatically notifying them of final scores, headline news and team information that matter most to them. Fans also can use NFL Wireless to browse NFL.COM, easily the most popular sports league website.

"NFL fans demand information about their favorite teams and players. Now, we can deliver it to them where ever they may be," said Chris Russo, the NFL's senior vice president of new media. "NFL Wireless is a convenient way for our fans to access personalized information on the mobile devices of their choice."

For the millions of NFL fans attending, watching or listening to games,
NFL Wireless brings them that much closer to action around the League. For fans at the stadium, in transit, working or otherwise unable to catch the game, the service is an easy way to keep track of scores and other real-time alerts.

NFL Wireless was developed in partnership with AnyDeviceä , a pioneer developer of platform software and mobile applications. AnyDevice mobilizes the NFL’s current Web site to deliver NFL Wireless content on a variety of Web-enabled devices.

"AnyDevice is pleased to partner with the NFL in launching its first wireless initiative," said Thomas Johnson, founder and CEO, AnyDevice. "NFL Wireless is the benchmark against which other mobile Web services will be measured."

NFL teams, such as the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants and Tennessee Titans are also making it easier for fans to stay connected with personalized team data. Fans may access their favorite team's news, schedules, standings as well as rosters, player bios and leader stats.

The league’s wireless plan will also keep fans up to date on the latest happenings even while they are enjoying the game at the stadium. 3Com, the naming rights holder of the home of the San Francisco 49ers, began testing its in-stadium wireless local area network. The company will test first in luxury boxes and then expand to the rest of the stadium. The service will let fans use handheld computers to get stats, real-time data from around the league, chat with other fans in stadium and at home and possibly even order food.

According to Jupiter Communications, approximately 100 million people in the United States will have wireless Internet access by 2003, versus 155 million with landline access from PCs.
