NFL LAUNCHES
THIRD SEASON IN CYBERSPACE WITH NEW DESIGN AND FEATURES FOR
NFL.COM AND AMERICA ONLINES TEAM NFL
- NFL.com Web Site To Feature Game Footage, New Kids Area and
Enhanced Real-Time Gameday Coverage -
NFL Interactive will kick off the 1997 season by debuting new features on NFL.com and on the Team NFL area on America Online, marking its third season in cyberspace.
NFL.com, created by NFL Interactive and ESPN Internet Ventures, will debut new interactive features, including enhanced live gameday coverage, NFL Films video highlights, live polling, a new "Play Football" kids area, as well as redesigned individual team areas.
Team NFL on AOL (Keyword:NFL) is produced by NFL Interactive in conjunction with ABC Sports. The entire area has an updated design and new elements, including weekly "slide-show" game previews, NFL Films video highlights, and an extensive schedule of chat events. In addition, AOL will be the exclusive online host of Pro Bowl balloting.
Gameday Coverage:
The live game play-by-play and statistics, exclusively on NFL.com, will be enhanced this season with graphical drive charts as well as a comprehensive Java scoreboard that automatically "pushes" the latest information.
Another new feature on NFL.com, the "Player Tracker," will enable fans to follow, in real time, the performance of their favorite players. This feature instantaneously updates individual player statistics for any roster of players. Statistics will also be sortable by team and 15 individual categories.
Video Highlights:
For the first time, NFL.com and Team NFL will showcase NFL Films video highlights of the previous week's games as well as upcoming matchups. Video also will support feature stories and fans can access team highlight clips from every game last season.
Play Football:
NFL.com will launch a "Play Football" interactive area dedicated to young fans, featuring educational and interactive games and activities, plus information on teams and players. Fans also can submit questions to their favorite NFL players. The "Play Football" area is being developed by Theatrix, a producer of sports-based educational software. "Play Football" is the NFL's youth football initiative.
Cyberspace Showdowns:
Cyberspace Showdowns returns for a third season. Members of the NFL Quarterback Club will chat live with fans every Tuesday evening during the season on both NFL.com and Team NFL on AOL. This year, two players will participate in separate one-hour chats. The chats will be held on NFL.com from 8-9:00 PM ET, and on Team NFL from 9-10:00 PM ET . (Tentative schedule listed below.)
Additionally, current and former NFL players and coaches will make chat appearances throughout the season at other times to be announced.
Team Sites:
The 31 individual team areas within both NFL.com and Team NFL have been redesigned, providing access to the latest statistics, rosters, depth charts, recaps, previews and other team information.
