NFL FLAG NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

NFL Flag Regional Tournaments To Be Held At Six Sites Nationwide With Winning Teams Advancing To The National Finals

Boys and girls, ages 10-14, can sign up now up for the inaugural NFL Flag National Championships. The NFL Flag National Finals will be taped in October and broadcast on ESPN later this year.

NFL Flag, presented by Nike, is the league’s non-contact, five-on-five flag football game for kids.

NFL Flag began in 1996 in six NFL markets, and, with the support of all 32 NFL clubs, will boast leagues in every NFL market and in 49 U.S. states this season.

Six regional championships will be held this fall, beginning in San Diego, on September 9-10, and concluding in Dallas and Jacksonville, on September 30-October 1. Cincinnati, New York, and Washington, D.C. will also serve as host sites for regional qualifying. Winning teams will earn invitations to the NFL Flag National Finals in late October. Winners in three age groups from each regional tournament will advance to the national finals. Boys and girls will attempt to qualify in the following divisions: Co-ed, 10-11; Boys, 12-14; Girls, 12-14. Teams are made up of six members, and each regional tournament is double elimination, with games lasting 20 minutes.

All participants in the NFL Flag Regional Tournaments will receive an NFL Flag t-shirt, and youths who are not members of a local NFL Flag league will be provided information on how to sign up for a league in their hometown.

No blocking or tackling is allowed in NFL Flag, and a ball carrier is downed when his or her flag belt is removed from the waist. For more information on NFL Flag, check out the kids section of "nfl.com" or log on to "playfootball.com".
