NFL SETS WEEKEND ATTENDANCE RECORD

The NFL set a paid attendance record last week when 1,095,720 fans purchased tickets to the 16 games of Kickoff 2003 Weekend (September 4, 7-8), the NFL announced today.     

The previous paid attendance record for a weekend in NFL history was 1,081,206, set last season on September 15-16. 

Led by the paid attendance of 83,398 at FedEx Field for the New York Jets-Washington Redskins game on Thursday, September 4 – the first game of the season -- the 16 games of Kickoff Weekend averaged 68,483 per game.
