The “It Should Be Me” writing contest is included in the October order forms for Scholastic Lucky® Book Club and Arrow® Book Club that also include a special offer on the popular paperback “NFL Superstars.” To enter, students are asked to write a letter (250 word or less) to their favorite NFL player explaining why they should be chosen to win the hottest ticket in football.  Teachers can submit the letters to Scholastic Book Clubs, and details of the contest are also online at www.scholastic.com/clubcontests.   (No Book Club purchase is necessary to enter or to win.).  The deadline for entries is November 17, 2003 and winners will be notified on December 12, 2003.

“We are delighted to partner with the NFL to encourage kids to work on their writing skills with the powerful incentive of a fabulous Super Bowl adventure,” said Judy Newman, Senior Vice President, Scholastic Book Clubs.  “The NFL’s support of this contest sends a persuasive message to kids that not only do their parents and teachers encourage reading and writing, but also their favorite sports heroes value these important, life-long skills as well.”

The NFL has partnered with Scholastic to encourage kids to read with a series of six NFL titles including two NFL Readers: “Road to the NFL” and “Record Breakers” as well as “NFL: Behind the Scenes,” “NFL: Fantasy Football,” “NFL: Superstars,” and “NFL: Team Tracker.”

"We're excited that two talented students will join us in Houston for a once-in-a-lifetime experience," said Chris Russo, the NFL's senior vice president of new media and publishing.  "Just as the two best teams in the NFL end the season at the Super Bowl, we're pleased to culminate the first year of our partnership at the world's most anticipated event of the year."
