ITEM ONE:

JEFF GARCÍA & THE HSF HOST ESTILO LATINO  

 

San Francisco 49ers quarterback JEFF GARCÍA, a longtime supporter of the HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND, will be the honorary host of a special entertainment fundraiser to benefit Bay Area Latino college students on September 22.  Celebrating the best in Latino culture, the evening will feature a mix of fashion, musical performances, a live auction and more.  Cutting-edge fashion designs by Henry Duarte, Eduardo Lucero, Estevan Ramos, David Rodriguez and others will be modeled by celebrities from the world of entertainment and sports, including members of the 49ers.  The goal of the event is to raise awareness of the importance of Latino higher education.  The event will take place on September 22 at Ruby Skye in San Francisco.  In May, García was elected to the board of directors of the HSF.  He has raised more than $250,000 through special events for the HSF.

 

ITEM TWO:

RAIDERS TEAM UP WITH LOCAL TELEMUNDO STATION

 

Executives of TELEMUNDO in Northern California and the OAKLAND RAIDERS have announced an agreement to produce and transmit a special series about the Raiders, the first such project in the club’s history on a Hispanic network.   The production consists of five half-hour specials on the team.  The programs will be transmitted on Telemundo/KSTS-TV 48 throughout the next four months. “We are very happy to have found yet another vehicle to reach fans of the NFL and of the Raiders and to provide them with information about one of pro football’s most popular teams” says BRUCE ALLEN, senior assistant of the Raiders.  The specials will be hosted by Telemundo’s popular sports reporter RAMÓN DÍAZ and by PATTY HERRERA, director of Hispanic initiatives for the Raiders.  They will be transmitted every Saturday at 6:00 pm as special editions of the weekly program “Telemundo Deportivo.”

 

ITEM THREE:

CARDINALS PARTICIPATE IN FIESTAS PATRIAS EVENT

 

The Arizona Cardinals will be a big part of the largest Hispanic celebration of community and culture in the West Valley of Arizona next Saturday (September 20) in the Old Town Avondale.  Fiestas Patrias, a Mexican Independence Day celebration, is a family oriented event celebrating Mexican history and culture presented by the City of Avondale and the Southwest Hispanic Culture Association.  The Cardinals will be at the event from 5:00 – 10:00 pm at Coldwater Park, hosting the Cards Kid Zone with interactive games, cheerleaders and Big Red, the team mascot.  The event also includes an entertainment lineup, including Ballet Folklorico dancers, Mariachi music and a children’s area with rides and activities.
