Two More Steelers Selected to the 2005 Pro Bowl Squad

PITTSBURGH—Six Steelers had already been selected to play in the 2005 Pro Bowl next month in Hawaii, and now two more players have been added to the team.

Defensive end Aaron Smith, whom many considered a grave oversight on the original squad, and offensive tackle Marvel Smith were added to the squad, the National Football League announced today. The AFC-NFC Pro Bowl will be played Feb. 13 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The eight players are the most representing the Steelers since 1979, when 10 Steelers played in the game.

Aaron Smith had an outstanding season, leading the team with a career-high tying eight sacks. He also finished with 54 total tackles, including 39 solo stops and 22 quarterback hurry/pressures, which ranked second on the team.

Marvel Smith had his best season as a pro after rebounding from an injury-plagued 2003 season in which he struggled with a neck/shoulder injury. He was a big reason the Steelers’ rushing attack improved from 31st in the league in 2003 to second this past season.

The Smiths replace New York Jets’ defensive end John Abraham (knee) and Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive tackle Willie Roaf (ankle).
