LB FIELDS ADDED TO PRO BOWL ROSTER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 1, 2005

Carolina Panthers linebacker Mark Fields, who was chosen to the NFC Pro Bowl

squad as a first alternate, will play in his second-career NFL all-star game

on Sunday, February 13 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. He replaces

Tampa Bay linebacker Derrick Brooks, who will miss the game due to injury

(knee).

Fields¹ selection punctuates an amazing recovery for the 10-year veteran,

who missed the 2003 season while battling Hodgkin¹s Disease. During the 2004

campaign, he recorded 60 tackles, four sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble

recovery, one interception and three passes defensed. Highlights from the

year included a 14-yard interception return to set up a touchdown at San

Francisco, season-high 12 tackles and fumble-causing sack versus Arizona,

fumble recovery versus Tampa Bay, and crucial fourth-down stop versus St.

Louis. Fields was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2000 after posting 103

tackles for New Orleans.

Fields joins middle linebacker Dan Morgan, wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad and

defensive end Julius Peppers as Panthers representatives on the NFC team,

where he will back up starting outside linebackers Keith Brooking of Atlanta

and Marcus Washington of Washington. The addition of Fields increases

Carolina¹s total to three defensive players on the NFC squad, the most since

1996 when the Panthers placed four defenders on the team- linebackers Kevin

Greene, Lamar Lathon and Sam Mills, and cornerback Eric Davis.
