NFL STATEMENT ON PROPOSED SALE OF
THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Reggie Fowler’s proposal to purchase the Minnesota Vikings from Red McCombs will proceed through the normal review process for such transactions. Under NFL policy, a proposed transfer of club ownership is reviewed by the Commissioner’s office and the Finance Committee. Following a report by the Finance Committee, a proposed sale goes to the entire ownership for a vote. Approval requires the affirmative vote of 24 of the 32 clubs.

Mr. Fowler and his representatives have had several meetings with our staff, and he met last Saturday (February 12) with Commissioner Tagliabue. We will present the purchase documentation and other information to the Finance Committee at its March 9-10 scheduled meeting in Fort Lauderdale. The Finance Committee then will prepare its report to the league’s membership and a vote could occur during the NFL Meeting that will be held March 20-24 in Maui. The next scheduled league meeting following Hawaii is May 24-25 in Washington, D.C.
