LLOYD FINED $15,000

Greg Lloyd of the Pittsburgh Steelers has been fined $15,000 for his conduct in connection with a flagrantly unnecessary hit against Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Keenan McCardell in a game on October 26, the NFL announced today.

Concerning the alleged phone call to Lloyd that has been linked to the hit, Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said if a player faces a difficult situation off-the-field, the proper response is to seek assistance from his head coach, his club, NFL Security, or others in the NFL office – not to exact physical retribution on opponents.

The NFL has found no evidence of such a call from Keenan McCardell and will not pursue the matter further.
