13 PLAYERS FINED FOR INVOLVEMENT IN FIGHTING
IN PANTHERS-RAIDERS GAME

A total of 13 players from the Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders have been fined a combined $54,500 for their involvement in a fighting incident in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game at Ericsson Stadium, the NFL announced today.

The fines were issued by NFL Director of Football Development Gene Washington.

"Our policy on fighting is very simple," Washington said. "The policy is: ‘Don’t fight, and if a fight breaks out involving other players, stay away.’ We carefully explain these rules to NFL players every year during training camp. Fighting is not part of the NFL game. We simply will not tolerate it."

Seven Panthers and six Raiders were fined. The fines will be deducted from their next game checks.

From Carolina, Frank Garcia was fined $7,500 for fighting. Blake Brockermeyer, Kerry Collins, Norberto Davidds-Garrido, Fred Lane, and Greg Skrepenak were fined $2,500 each for unnecessarily entering a fight area and actively participating. Raghib Ismail was fined $1,000 for unnecessarily entering a fight area.

From Oakland, Chester McGlockton was fined $17,500 for fighting. Russell Maryland and Darrell Russell were also fined $5,000 each for fighting. Calvin Branch and Eric Turner were fined $2,500 each for unnecessarily entering a fight area and actively participating. Perry Carter was fined $1,000 for unnecessarily entering a fight area.

Player fines collected by the NFL are contributed in equal amounts to the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund, the Vincent T. Lombardi Cancer Research Center, ALS Neuromuscular Foundation, and the NFLPA Players Assistance Trust.
