NFL RECORDS
& MILESTONES SET IN WEEK 7
Following are some league and team
records established Sunday, October 12:
- Minnesota Vikings kicker EDDIE
MURRAY set the all-time NFL record for consecutive
extra points made with his 235th career PAT vs. the
Carolina Panthers.
- Minnesota Vikings quarterback
BRAD JOHNSON became the first
quarterback since 1960 to catch his own pass and score a
receiving touchdown.
- Detroit Lions running back BARRY
SANDERS became the first player in NFL history
to rush for two touchdowns of 80 yards or more in a
single game.
- Jacksonville Jaguars running
back JAMES STEWART became only the fourth player
in league history to score five rushing touchdowns in a
game. He is the first player to accomplish the feat since
Buffalos COOKIE GILCHRIST on December 8,
1963. Stewarts three first-quarter touchdowns were
the most in a quarter since San Diegos ROD
BERNSTINE rushed for three touchdowns in the fourth
quarter against the Miami Dolphins on December 15, 1991.
- Arizona Cardinals cornerback AENEAS
WILLIAMS set a club record with his sixth career
interception return for a touchdown.
- Atlanta Falcons defensive end
CHUCK SMITH became only the ninth player in league
history with five sacks in a game, and also tied the club
record established twice by CLAUDE HUMPHREY.
Smiths five sacks Sunday came against New Orleans.
- The Falcons broke their club
record with 10 sacks on Sunday against New Orleans. Their
previous record was nine, accomplished twice, most
recently vs. Carolina on September 3, 1995.
- Miami Dolphins quarterback DAN
MARINO set a club record with 126 consecutive passes
without an interception, passing BOB GRIESEs
mark of 122.
