POLITICS & FOOTBALL MIX WELL ON THANKSGIVING
For most Americans, Thanksgiving is a time for family, food and football.
For some Members of Congress, the football part of Thanksgiving is even more meaningful because of their experience playing the game.
The most accomplished football players in Congress reside in football-crazed Oklahoma -- Congressman Steve Largent (R-OK), former wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks and Pro Football Hall of Famer, and Congressman J.C. Watts (R-OK), former quarterback for the University of Oklahoma and Canadian Football League veteran.
However, members of the current 105th Congress reflect a wide cross-section of collegiate football backgrounds and include:
Senate:
Conrad Burns (R-MT) University of Missouri Chuck Hagel (R-NE) Wayne State College Edward Kennedy (D-MA) Harvard University Craig Thomas (R-WY) University of Wyoming
House:
Tom Allen (D-ME) Bowdoin College Richard Burr (R-NC) Wake Forest University Robert Ehrlich (R-MD) Princeton University Tony Hall (D-OH) Denison University Dennis Hastert (R-IL) Wheaton College Tim Holden (D-PA) University of Richmond Ron Kind (D-WI) Harvard University Scott Klug (R-WI) Lawrence University Steve Largent (R-OK) University of Tulsa James Leach (R-IA) Princeton University Scott McInnis (R-CO) Mesa State College Jim Moran (D-VA) Holy Cross Chip Pickering (R-MS) Mississippi College Jim Saxton (R-NJ) East Stroudsburg University Bob Schaffer (R-CO) University of Dayton Floyd Spence (R-SC) University of South Carolina Charles Stenholm (D-TX) Tarleton State Junior College Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) South Dakota School of Mines & Technology J.C. Watts, Jr. (R-OK) University of Oklahoma
