1997 NFL PRESEASON INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM STATISTICAL LEADERS
NFL preseason statistical leaders were tracked in 1997 by the Elias Sports Bureau, official statisticians of the NFL.
With the preseason schedule concluding this past weekend, listed below are the final preseason leaders in the American and National Football Conferences. Running back GEORGE JONES of the Pittsburgh Steelers was the NFL preseason rushing leader (254 yards). Wide receiver BILLY DAVIS of the Dallas Cowboys led the league in receptions (23). The leading passer was quarterback ROB JOHNSON of the Jacksonville Jaguars with a rating of 142.9
The New York Jets finished the 97 preseason as the top-ranked offense, averaging 403.8 yards per game. The Washington Redskins led the league in defense with a 253.0 yards-per-game average.
