NFL 10/5/97NFL PLAYS 10,000TH REGULAR-SEASON GAME
The National Football League played the 10,000th regular-season game in its 78-year history on Sunday, October 6 when the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Tennessee Oilers 16-13 at the Kingdome in Seattle.
Entering the weekend, 9,992 regular-season games had been played. Seven games kicked off at 1:00 PM ET, bringing the all-time total to 9,999. The first of four 4:00 PM ET games to finish was to be the leagues 10,000th. The Seahawks-Oilers game was the first to finish.
Warren Moons jersey and a football from the game will be sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In a media survey conducted by the league, the "Heidi" game, won by the Oakland Raiders over the New York Jets 43-32 on November 17, 1968, was chosen as the leagues most-memorable regular-season game.
In a fan poll conducted on the leagues internet site, NFL.COM, the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28 comeback win over the Denver Broncos on ABCs NFL Monday Night Football on October 17, 1994 was voted most memorable.
