BARRY RUSHES TOWARDS 100

Detroit Lions running back BARRY SANDERS is on the verge of another NFL milestone. Sanders has 98 career rushing touchdowns and needs two to become only the sixth player in NFL history with 100.

He has rushed for two or more touchdowns in a game 21 times.

Sanders began the season with 95 rushing touchdowns and added three last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. He also increased his NFL record of 50-yard-or-more touchdown runs to 14 with a 67-yard score.

The most rushing touchdowns Sanders has scored in a game was four against the Minnesota Vikings on November 24, 1991. In that game, he rushed for 220 yards on 23 carries for a 9.6-yard average. The Lions play at Minnesota this Sunday. Sanders has 11 career rushing touchdowns against the Vikings.

The longest touchdown run in Sanders’ career was 82 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 12 of last season. It was his second TD run of 80 yards or more in the game (the first was for 80 yards), the first time in NFL history a player has rushed for two touchdowns of 80 yards or more in the same game.

Following are the five players who have rushed for 100 touchdowns, and a breakdown of Sanders’ rushing touchdowns:
