DENVER BRONCOS & SAN DIEGO CHARGERS TO MEET
IN FIRST NFL GAME IN AUSTRALIA

Stadium Australia at Homebush Bay, centerpiece of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, will host the first NFL game in Australia in 1999, NFL Commissioner PAUL TAGLIABUE and New South Wales Premier BOB CARR jointly announced today in New York and Sydney.

The game matching the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers will take place on Sunday, August 8 in Sydney. It will be televised live in the United States on Saturday, August 7 at 9:00 p.m. ET. The televising networks for the game in the U.S. and Australia will be announced in the next few months.

"We are honored and excited to be participating in one of the first events in Stadium Australia," said Commissioner Tagliabue. "We want to thank the government of New South Wales and Premier Bob Carr. We look forward with great anticipation to a tremendous experience and event for our fans in Australia and for our teams."

This will be the fifth time an Olympic stadium has hosted an NFL game. Previous Olympic/NFL sites were London’s Wembley Stadium (1948/American Bowls 1986-92), Olympic Stadium in Berlin (1936/1990-94), Barcelona’s Montjuic Stadium (1992/1993-94) and Montreal’s Olympic Stadium (1976/1990).

Millsport L.L.C., a leading sports marketing agency, will be the event’s exclusive promoter. Millsport was founded in 1975 and has offices in Stamford, Conn. (headquarters); Foster City, Calif.; Dallas, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; and Sydney.

"This is certainly a monumental day in our company’s history, and we look forward to working with the NFL to give the Australian people a memorable event," said JIM MILLMAN, Millsport founder, chairman and chief executive officer.

The National Football League’s American Bowl series of international games began in 1986 in response to growing worldwide interest in American football. The Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears played in the first American Bowl game in 1986 in London’s Wembley Stadium in front of a crowd of 82,000.

Sydney becomes the NFL’s 11TH international destination. A total of 33 previous games have been played in 10 cities outside the United States since 1986 -- Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, London, Mexico City, Monterrey, Montreal, Tokyo, Toronto and Vancouver.

Nearly two million fans -- 1,914,289 -- have attended the games for an average of 58,009 per game. The largest crowd in NFL history – 112,376 – attended the Dallas Cowboys-Houston game in Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium in 1994.
