FORMER NFL EUROPE LEAGUE QBs COME IN & WIN

Two former NFL Europe League quarterbacks came off the bench to lead their NFL teams to victory today.

DAMON HUARD of the Miami Dolphins replaced DAN MARINO (sore shoulder) in the first quarter with the Dolphins trailing the New England Patriots 7-0. Huard completed 24 of 42 attempts for 240 yards and two touchdowns in leading Miami to a 31-30 victory. Huard also had six carries for 54 yards. With the Dolphins trailing 30-25 with 2:10 remaining in the fourth quarter, Huard led a 14-play, 59-yard drive and threw the game winning five-yard touchdown pass to STANLEY PRITCHETT with 23 seconds left.

JAY FIEDLER of the Jacksonville Jaguars replaced MARK BRUNELL (bruised ribs) in the third quarter with the Jaguars trailing the Cleveland Browns 7-6. Fiedler completed 12 of 14 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown and had three carries for 27 yards as Jacksonville outscored the Browns 18-0 in the second half of a 24-7 victory.

Huard passed for 1,857 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 games for the Frankfurt Galaxy in 1998. He led Frankfurt to a 7-3 record and a berth in World Bowl ’98.

Fiedler passed for 678 yards and two touchdowns for the Amsterdam Admirals in 1997.

Two other former NFL Europe League quarterbacks directed their teams to victories in Sunday’s early games.

KURT WARNER (1998 Amsterdam Admirals) helped the St. Louis Rams remain the NFL’s lone unbeaten team (5-0) with a 41-10 victory over Atlanta.

DOUG PEDERSEN (NY/NJ Knights, 1992; and Rhein Fire, 1995) took the Philadelphia Eagles to their second consecutive win – a 20-16 victory over Chicago.
