NFL HITS RECORD 1 MILLION IN WEEKEND PAID ATTENDANCE

NFL paid attendance for the second week of the 1999 season totaled a record 1,010,820 for 15 games on September 19-20, the first time NFL games have attracted one million fans to stadiums on a single weekend.

The previous highest total weekend paid attendance was on November 23-24, 1997 when 999,778 tickets were sold to 15 games.

NFL television ratings have also shown impressive increases in the first two weeks of the league’s 80th season. The opening Monday-night game of the season – Miami at Denver on September 13 – earned a 16.1 national rating, making it the top-rated program of the television week (September 13-19).
