COMMISSIONER TAGLIABUE MEETS WITH LAWRENCE PHILLIPS
NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue met today with Lawrence Phillips for approximately an hour. The Commissioner reviewed with Phillips the players experiences at the University of Nebraska as well as the past three years when Phillips played for the Rams, the Dolphins, and this spring with the Barcelona Dragons in NFL Europe.
As a free agent, Phillips currently is eligible to sign with any NFL club. However, Commissioner Tagliabue advised the player that, as a result of Phillips past misconduct, he will be subject to a substantial fine this season if he does contract with an NFL club and resume play in the NFL. The amount of the fine will be determined at a later date.
Phillips said after the meeting: "I worked hard to meet my responsibilities in NFL Europe this spring, and Im determined to do the same in the NFL starting this summer."
