The Saints have fined Head Coach Mike Ditka $20,000 for inappropriate conduct, it was announced today by team President/General Manager/Chief Operating Officer Bill Kuharich.

The fine will be contributed to area charities.

"Our fans have been loyal to us for three decades," said Kuharich. "Mr. Benson and the entire Saints organization agree that our fans do not deserve that type of behavior. I reminded Coach Ditka that his actions yesterday were unacceptable, and I recommended to Mr. Benson that the club act promptly to express its disapproval. Mike understands that he represents our organization to the fans. It is disappointing that during the heat of battle Coach Ditka behaved in that manner. His passion and competitiveness got the best of him. However, this is one of those situations where club discipline is warranted."

Kuharich added, "The Saints advised the League Office of the fine, and we understand no further action is planned by the Commissioner."
