ATLANTA -- Houston, Texas was awarded an NFL franchise today, becoming the league’s 32nd team.
The team will begin play in 2002.
Approval was given unanimously by NFL owners at a league meeting in Atlanta.
Houston was an original member of the American Football League in 1960 and played in the NFL as the Houston Oilers through 1996.
