MONDAY-NIGHT MATCHUP:
DENVER VISITS JACKSONVILLE IN AFC CLASH
The Jacksonville Jaguars, who have an NFL-best 11-1 record, host the Denver Broncos, the team which had the leagues best record in 1998 (14-2) and won the past two Super Bowls, on NFL Monday Night Football tonight.
The Jaguars have won nine games in a row and have clinched their fourth consecutive playoff berth out of their five franchise seasons. But they are not ready to relax.
"We can't feel comfortable having a one-and-a-half-game lead in the division," says Jaguars tackle LEON SEARCY. "Our focus should be to win out. We could care less what (second-place) Tennessee is doing. We have to win out and make sure the road to the Super Bowl comes through Jacksonville.
"We're not thinking about losing," Searcy added. "We dont want to get into a situation where we let a bunch of [tie-breaking] rules and regulations dictate who gets home-field advantage."
Jaguars head coach TOM COUGHLIN agrees with his player. "What Tennessee does is no factor in our motivation or our concentration," he says. "We still have to be as productive as we can."
The Broncos, meanwhile, are 4-8, but are looking to continue developing their young players particularly quarterback BRIAN GRIESE, who is in his first year as the teams starter.
"You have to go out and prove yourself each week, and Brian understands that," Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan says. "You have to prove yourself every practice, that's the nature of every position, not just the quarterback position. That's why I think it's great experience for him over the next four games to go out there and not only prove to himself, but prove to everybody that he can make some plays."
