200-YARD EXPLOSION
!Running backs MIKE ANDERSON of the Denver Broncos, COREY DILLON of the Cincinnati Bengals, WARRICK DUNN of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and CURTIS MARTIN of the New York Jets all rushed for 200 yards yesterday. The four 200-yard efforts marked the most such rushing performances in one day in NFL history.
There have now been an NFL-record 10 200-yard rushing games this season, which shatters the previous season record of seven in 1997.
Dillon, who broke the all-time single-game rushing record earlier this season with a 278-yard performance against the Denver Broncos on October 22, rushed for his second 200-yard game of the year yesterday, finishing with 216 yards. His performance was eclipsed by Andersons 251-yard day, a total that broke Dillons record (246 yards on Dec. 4, 1997) for most yards gained by a rookie.
Prior to Dillons and Andersons 250+ yard games this season, there were only three such performances in NFL history, with the last being WALTER PAYTONs then NFL record 275-yard performance in 1977.
Warrick Dunns 210-yard day was only the second 200-yard performance by a Buccaneer in franchise history (219 -- JAMES WILDER, 1983), while Martins 203-yard day set a Jets team record for rushing yards in a game and was the first regular season 200-yard rushing game in franchise history.
