JEFF FISHER NAMED TO NFL COMPETITION COMMITTEE

Tennessee Titans head coach jeff fisher has been appointed to the NFL Competition Committee by Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

"As a former NFL player and a successful NFL head coach, Jeff is in a unique position to help us maintain the highest standards of competition on the field," Commissioner Tagliabue said.

Fisher will replace Pittsburgh Steelers head coach BILL COWHER, who will rotate off the committee. Fisher’s appointment officially will take place on February 1.

The NFL Competition Committee oversees all aspects of the game on the field and recommends rules and policy changes to the NFL clubs.

Minnesota Vikings head coach DENNIS GREEN and Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Rich Mc Kay are co-chairmen of the committee. The other committee members are Cincinnati Bengals President MIKE BROWN, Arizona Cardinals general manager BOB FERGUSON, Dallas Cowboys Owner/President/general manager JERRY JONES, and Indianapolis Colts President BILL POLIAN.

This season, Fisher guided Tennessee to a franchise-record 13 wins and its first playoff appearance since 1993.

Earlier this season, the Titans extended their winning streak against division opponents to 13 consecutive games – tying for the third-longest division win streak since the NFL division format began in 1970. Fisher has won 21 of his past 29 (.724) games, including the Titans’ AFC Wild Card victory last Saturday.

From 1981-85, Fisher was a defensive back and return specialist for the Chicago Bears. He earned a Super Bowl XX ring with the Bears in 1985.
