ALL-STAR BALLOTING FOR 2001 PRO BOWL BEGINS
MONDAY ON NFL.COM
The Presidential election is weeks away. Voting for the 2001 Pro Bowl, the NFLs all-star game, begins this Monday.
NFL fans can begin voting on the leagues website, nfl.com, to help select the AFC and NFC All-Star Teams.
Online balloting for the Pro Bowl, to be played in Hawaii on February 4, will run over an eight-week span, from October 16 to December 8.
NFL.com is the most popular pro sports league website, and ranks third among all sports websites.
Ballots for the NFLs all-star teams are also available in national and stadium issues of NFL Insider, the NFLs official magazine; at select locations inside stadiums; and at 300 Graingers retail stores nationwide. All fans casting ballots automatically enter a sweepstakes that awards a trip for two to the Pro Bowl.
The AFC and NFC all-star squads are made up of the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each groups vote counts one-third towards determining the 43-man rosters that represent the American Football Conference and National Football Conference in Pro Bowl. NFL players and coaches will cast their votes on December 11-12.
The NFL is the only sports league that combines voting by fans, coaches and players to determine its all-star teams. It was the first professional sports league to offer online all-star voting in 1995.
The fans portion of the voting will be used to break ties in case of deadlocks.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback PEYTON MANNING received the most AFC fan votes last year, while St. Louis Rams quarterback KURT WARNER was the fans top NFC choice.
The squads will be announced on the annual ESPN Pro Bowl Selection Show on December 14 at 8:00 PM ET.
The Pro Bowl takes place on February 4 at 5:30 PM ET (12:30 P.M. HT). It will be the 22nd consecutive NFL all-star game played at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii and will be broadcast live on ABC-TV.
