Dan Kaler Wins A Trip To The Super Bowl And
A Chance To Win Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick Sweepstakes

HERSHEY, Pa. —
"I did some practicing before I came to San Diego," said Dan Kaler, Camas, Wash., winner of a trip to the Super Bowl in Tampa and a chance to win

$1 million. Kaler won the kickoff for Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick sweepstakes held January 17, 2001, in San Diego.

Kaler, and his wife, will travel to Tampa for a chance to kick a field goal and win

$1 million. The kick will be broadcast live on CBS at approximately 1:45 p.m. on January 28, 2001, during Phil Simms All-Iron Team within the Super Bowl XXXV pre-game show. The kick will take place from the NFL Experience in Tampa.

For the first time, San Diego Chargers kicker John Carney will play a role in determining whether the Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick field goal attempt will be from 25, 30, 35 or 40-yards. Carney will make field goal attempts of 50, 55 and 60 yards. For each successful field goal attempt by Carney, the Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick contestant moves five yards closer to the goal post. Carney will make the three field goal attempts in Tampa during Super Bowl week and will be on-hand to personally train and work with Kaler.

Kaler earned the most points at the kickoff, edging out Joe Polkowski, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Kathleen Gallagher, Clearwater, Fla.; and, Julie Karlen, Littleton, Colo. Carney also was on hand at the January 17 kickoff to coach the finalists who competed at San Diego Chargers Training Facility.

Even if he doesn’t make the $1 million kick, Kaler is still a winner. In addition to the trip to Tampa, he will receive a consolation prize of $10,000.

"Hershey is proud to be involved with the NFL and sponsor the Million Dollar Kick program," said Mark McCormick, Marketing Manager, Hershey Foods Corporation. "Everyone at Hershey would like to see Dan Kaler become the next millionaire."

This is the sixth year for Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick. On February 2, 1997, Lance Alstodt from New York City successfully kicked a field goal during the Pro Bowl to become Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick’s first instant millionaire. On February 1, 1998, Dennis Crawford of Cleveland, Tenn., became the second Grand Prize winner to successfully kick for $1 million in Hawaii. On January 28, 2001, Kaler will try to become the third Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick instant millionaire.
