Palmer Out As Browns Coach

Berea, Ohio – Browns President and CEO Carmen Policy announced Thursday that the team has fired Head Coach Chris Palmer after two seasons. The move was officially announced at a 3:00 p.m. press conference at the team’s training facility.

The move came two weeks into the Browns’ postseason organizational review and followed a lengthy meeting Wednesday between Palmer, Policy and Owner Al Lerner.

After starting out 2-1 in 2000, the Browns stumbled to a 3-13 finish. The team was hampered by injuries to several key players including quarterback Tim Couch. Palmer’s Browns went 5-27 in two seasons, including a 2-14 mark in 1999. He joined the Browns as the franchise’s ninth full-time head coach on Jan. 21, 1999.

The Browns are expected to begin their search immediately for a replacement for Palmer.
