Palmer Out As Browns Coach
Berea, Ohio Browns President and CEO Carmen Policy announced Thursday that the team
has fired Head Coach Chris Palmer after two seasons. The move was officially announced at
a 3:00 p.m. press conference at the teams training facility.
The move came two weeks into the Browns postseason organizational review and followed a lengthy meeting Wednesday between Palmer, Policy and Owner Al Lerner.
After starting out 2-1 in 2000, the Browns stumbled to a 3-13 finish. The team was hampered by injuries to several key players including quarterback Tim Couch. Palmers Browns went 5-27 in two seasons, including a 2-14 mark in 1999. He joined the Browns as the franchises ninth full-time head coach on Jan. 21, 1999.
The Browns are expected to begin their search immediately for a replacement for Palmer.
