WARNER THROWS PERFECT GAME
St. Louis Rams quarterback KURT WARNER completed 24 of 30 passes (80.0 percent) for 390 yards, with four touchdowns and no interceptions for a passer rating of 158.3 in the Rams' 57-31 victory over the the San Diego Charters in St. Louis on Sunday.
A passer rating of 158.3 is the highest rating a passer can achieve. Four categories are used as a basis for compiling a rating: percentage of completions per attempt, average yards gained per attempt, percentage of touchdown passes per attempt, and percentage of interceptions per attempt.
Since 1950, there have been 11 "perfect games," including yesterday, and Warner is the only quarterback with two of them. On October 3 last season against Cincinnati, Warner completed 17 of 21 passes (81.0 percent) for 310 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Rams' 38-10 victory over the Bengals.
Prior to Warners perfect game last season, the last time an NFL quarterback achieved a 158.3 rating with at least 20 attempts was Cincinnati's JEFF BLAKE, who completed 18 of 22 passes for 275 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs in a 27-9 win at Pittsburgh on October 19, 1995.
