WOMENS PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE TO PLAY EXHIBITION GAME
AT COCA-COLA PRESENTS THE NFL EXPERIENCE AT SUPER BOWL XXXV THURSDAY
WHAT: The Womens Professional Football League (WPFL) will play an
exhibition game at Coca-Cola Presents the NFL Experience as part of the Super Bowl XXXV
festivities.
In 1999, the WPFL embarked on its Barnstorming Tour, traveling nationwide to increase awareness of the league. They also played an exhibition game at Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta.
In the past year, the WPFL has expanded from two teams to eleven teams playing in four divisions. Each team has 40 female athletes, one head coach and 4 assistant coaches. The WPFL season has 55 regular season games, playoffs, the WPFL Championship Bowl and the WPFL All-Star game.
More than 40 million women are expected to watch Super Bowl XXXV (Nielsen) and 43% of the NFLs fan base is women (ESPN/Chilton Poll).
