National Football League & National Football League Players Association To Contribute Minimum $10 Million To Disaster Relief
The National Football League through NFL Charities will contribute a minimum of $5 million and the National Football League Players Association will contribute another $5 million to organizations dealing with the loss of life and needs resulting from the terrorist incidents at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and western Pennsylvania, the NFL and the NFLPA announced today. The minimum $10 million total will be placed in a special NFL-NFLPA Disaster Relief Fund and will be administered by a joint board co-chaired by Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and NFL Players Association Executive Director Gene Upshaw. In addition to the minimum $10 million, hundreds of players already have made individual contributions of money and time to local causes. NFL owners and their families also have made individual contributions or have formed non-profit funds to benefit the victims. An initial $1 million in grants will be made as soon as possible to address the needs of police, firefighters, other public safety, emergency and volunteer personnel. “We are pleased that the NFL owners and players have joined together once again to make this heartfelt contribution to the families and other individuals with needs arising from last week’s terrorist incidents,” said Tagliabue and Upshaw in a joint statement. “This $10 million will be distributed to worthwhile groups that are doing their share to help relieve the stress of those families and others affected by this disaster.” The list of funds that will benefit from the initial $1 million distribution will be announced in the near future. # # # |
