NFL ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE CHANGES, WEEK 17 KICKOFF TIMES
The National Football League today announced the following changes to its 2001 schedule: · The Sunday afternoon, October 28 Indianapolis at Kansas City game on CBS-TV has been re-scheduled for Thursday night, October 25 on ESPN (8:30 PM ET). · The October 28 New York Giants at Washington game, originally scheduled for ESPN at 8:30 PM ET, will kick off at 4:05 PM on FOX-TV. There will be no NFL game that night. These changes were made to avoid a conflict with Game 2 of the World Series, which was moved back a week following the attacks of September 11. The New York Giants at Washington game could not be re-scheduled for Thursday night, October 25 because the Giants play on Monday night, October 22. The NFL has traditionally played on the Thursday night preceding the start of the World Series rather than play Sunday night opposite the Series. The new schedule for Week 7 of the season: WEEK 7 THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28
MONDAY, OCTOBER 29
The NFL also announced today the new kickoff times of its games of Week 17 on January 6-7. Those games were originally scheduled for September 16-17 (Week 2 of the original NFL schedule) but were postponed because of the September 11 attacks. The complete new schedule for the final week of the 2001 season, Week 17 (January 6-7), now is as follows:
WEEK 17 SUNDAY, JANUARY 6
MONDAY, JANUARY 7
The NFL playoffs will begin on January 12-13 with Wild Card Weekend. The AFC and NFC Divisional Playoffs will be on January 19-20, the Conference Championship Games on January 27, and Super Bowl XXXVI in New Orleans on February 3. The AFC-NFC Pro Bowl will be played the weekend of February 9-11. |
