BILLS HOST “CANADA DAY” FOR CANADIAN NFL FANS

Colts Pathon and Vanderjagt add Canadian content to annual event

TORONTO, OCTOBER 31, 2001 – On Sunday, November 4, 2001, the Buffalo Bills, working in conjunction with NFL Canada, will welcome more than 8,000 Canadian fans to Ralph Wilson Stadium as part of the team’s 7th annual “Canada Day” celebration.

Over the past several seasons the Buffalo Bills, and more recently the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions, have designated one home game per season as “Canada Day.”  Hosting a “Canada Day” gives these border clubs a chance to recognize the thousands of fans who either cross the 49th parallel on Sundays or watch the team’s games on television.

“The NFL and its fans in Ontario are thrilled that the Bills are hosting another “Canada Day” event this season,” said DAN QUINN, director of marketing for NFL Canada.  “The concept of  “Canada Day” actually originated with the Bills.  Over the years we’ve been working together to really build the event into something special for Canadian football fans.”

More than 20 buses will depart from Toronto, Ontario, Sunday morning and arrive in time for a Canadian pre-game party outside Ralph Wilson Stadium.  MOJO Radio’s “Humble and Fred” morning show team will host the party. Canadian BECKY STINGER will perform the Canadian anthem, and Canada Day fans will be adorned in Bills jerseys as they cheer on the home team. The BURLINGTON, ON TEEN TOUR BAND will perform at half time. The ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE COLOR GUARD and MISS TEEN CANADA will also be in attendance.

Colts kicker MIKE VANDERJAGT lettered in basketball, football, soccer and track at Oakville Ontario’s White Oaks High School. Colts receiver JEROME PATHON attended Carson Graham High School in British Columbia. The Detroit Lions hosted a “Canada Day” for South Western Ontario fans on Sunday, October 21. The Lions fell to the Tennessee Titans 27-24.
