REDSKINS’ DORIAN BOOSE
SUSPENDED FOR ONE GAME WITHOUT PAY
FOR IMPROPER CONTACT WITH TWO GAME OFFICIALS;
ALSO FINED $7,500 FOR INVOLVEMENT IN PLAYER ALTERCATION
Washington Redskins
defensive tackle Dorian Boose has been suspended without pay for the
Redskins’ October 7 game against the New York Giants for improperly
contacting two game officials in the third quarter of last Monday night’s
game against the Green Bay Packers, the NFL announced today. Boose also
was fined $7,500 for his involvement in a player altercation.
Boose was suspended
without pay for the Redskins’ October 7 game by Commissioner Paul
Tagliabue for improper contact with side judge David Wyant and head
linesman Paul Weidner during a player altercation that occurred in the
Packers’ bench area.
Boose was fined an
additional $7,500 by NFL Director of Football Operations Gene Washington
for his involvement in the player altercation.
Washington handles
discipline for player-against-player violations, while Commissioner
Tagliabue is responsible for player violations involving game officials.
“Once you left the
playing field,” said Commissioner Tagliabue in a letter to Boose, “and
entered the Packers’ bench area, you approached the side judge from
behind, pushed his head (knocking off his cap in the process), and then
shoved him out of the way. In fact, you shoved him with such force that
the official lost his footing and might have been seriously injured had
not a member of Green Bay’s staff caught him and broken his fall.
“When a second official,
the head linesman, attempted to separate you from other players, you
engaged in improper physical contact with him as well by placing your
hands on his chest and attempting to move him away from you.”
A separate letter to
Boose from Gene Washington explained the $7,500 fine.
“After a play in which
you had no involvement was over,” Washington said, “you left the playing
field, entered the Packers’ bench area, and joined an altercation then in
progress. Once you entered the area of the altercation, you engaged in
pushing and shoving with several Green Bay players…Your conduct violated
League rules prohibiting unnecessary roughness and entering an area of
altercation.”
In addition, Packers
linebacker Nate Wayne was fined $5,000 for his role in the altercation.
