Randy Rial, Battle Creek, Mich., Wins a Trip to the Super Bowl and
a Chance to Win Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick Sweepstakes
HERSHEY, Pa., January 21, 2002 —
“I can’t believe I’m going to the Super Bowl. I’m so excited,” said Randy
Rial, winner of a trip to the Super Bowl in New Orleans and a chance to
win $1,000,000. Rial won the kickoff for Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick
sweepstakes, held today at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, Fla.
Rial will travel to New Orleans for a chance
to kick a field goal and win $1,000,000. The kick will be broadcast live
on FOX at approximately 2:45 p.m. EST on February 3, during the FOX Super
Bowl XXXVI pre-game show. The kick will take place at the NFL Experience
in New Orleans.
Jacksonville Jaguars’ kicker Mike Hollis will
play a role in determining from what yard line the Hershey’s Million
Dollar Kick field goal is attempted. Hollis will make three field goal
attempts of 50, 55 and 60-yards during Super Bowl week in New Orleans. For
each successful field goal attempt by Hollis, the Hershey’s Million
Dollar Kick contestant moves five-yards closer to the goal post,
starting 40-yards out. Hollis will also be on hand to personally train and
coach Rial.
Rial earned the most points at the kickoff,
edging out the other five contestants. Hollis also was on hand to assist
the six national finalists who competed today.
“Everyone at Hershey would like to see Randy
become the next millionaire,” said Mark McCormick, Marketing Manager,
Hershey Foods Corporation.
Even if he doesn’t make the $1 million kick,
Rial is still a winner. In addition to the trip to New Orleans and tickets
to the Super Bowl, he would receive a consolation prize of $10,000.
Rial, 41, is a Manufacturing Manager in Battle
Creek, Mich. He entered the sweepstakes through an in-store ballot. His
wife Sherry will cheer him on in New Orleans.
This is the eighth year for Hershey’s
Million Dollar Kick. On February 2, 1997, Lance Alstodt from New York
City successfully kicked a field goal during the Pro Bowl to become
Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick’s first instant millionaire. On February
1, 1998, Dennis Crawford of Cleveland, Tenn., became the second Grand
Prize winner to successfully kick for $1 million in Hawaii. On February 3,
Rial will try to become the third Hershey’s Million Dollar Kick
instant millionaire.
