NFL AND DK PUBLISHING TEAM TO PROVIDE YOUNG FANS
GLIMPSE OF PEYTON MANNING

Colts QB Latest Subject of New DK Readers Series

New York—
Available in bookstores now, the National Football League and DK Publishing introduce a new book to the acclaimed DK Readers series: PEYTON MANNING (Level 3) ($12.95 hardcover/$3.95 paperback, August 2001, Grades 2 – 4.  ISBN: 0-7894-7880-3 PB) by James Buckley, Jr.

From his days of playing backyard catch with his brothers Cooper and Eli, to his success at the University of Tennessee, to guiding the Indianapolis Colts to success, PEYTON MANNING offers young fans a glimpse behind the scenes of the quarterback’s life.   Buckley also details Manning’s on-field successes with the NFL, including his record-setting rookie season and his key role in the Colts’ triple-threat offense with wide receiver MARVIN HARRISON and running back EDGERRIN JAMES.

In addition to informative sidebars and a glossary, a look at the four-year NFL veteran’s off the field ventures rounds out PEYTON MANNING.  He founded the PeyBack Foundation, an organization aimed at helping children in Indianapolis and his hometown of New Orleans.

“I think athletes are role models who should show kids about respect, responsibility, and persistence in achieving goals,” Manning said.

Full of photographs, lively illustrations, and engaging, age-appropriate stories, the PEYTON MANNING is sure to score a touchdown with young readers.

James Buckley, Jr. has written about sports for more than 15 years, including a stint as the directorial projects manager for Sports Illustrated.  He is the author of over 20 books, including DK’s Eyewitness: Baseball, The Visual Dictionary of Baseball and four baseball-themed DK Readers.  He lives with his family in Santa Barbara, California.
