APPOINTS BAYNES & DUNN
AS SUPERVISORS OF OFFICIALS
The National Football League has
appointed two longtime on-field officials -- RON BAYNES and NEELY
DUNN -- as supervisors of
officials, the league announced today.
The appointments are part of an
expansion of the full-time officiating supervisory staff at the NFL office in
New York City. Baynes and Dunn will
report to Director of Officiating MIKE PEREIRA and Director of Officiating
Operations LARRY UPSON.
“Ron and Neely have proven themselves
through the years to be decisive and knowledgeable officials on the field,”
said Pereira. “They now will
bring those qualities to our supervisory staff, as we continue to strive for
excellence in all areas of our operation.”
Baynes and Dunn have a combined 42
seasons of on-field officiating experience, including 20 in the NFL.
Baynes was an NFL line judge from
1987-2000, officiating in Super Bowls XXIX and XXXIII, and in four AFC-NFC
Championship Games.
Before joining the NFL, Baynes
officiated in the Southeastern Conference for 13 seasons (1974-86), and was
selected to work in six bowl games.
He is a graduate of Auburn and has been
a school administrator and coach in Alabama, most recently at Central Alabama
Community College in Birmingham.
Dunn was an NFL side judge from 1995
through last season, officiating in two divisional playoffs and three
championship games. He also
officiated in the NFL Europe League in 1994 and ’95.
Before coming to the NFL, Dunn was an
official for nine seasons (1987-95) in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and
Southeastern Conference, officiating in one bowl game in the SEC.
He is a graduate of South Carolina State
College and has been a middle school principal for the past 11 years at the
Ronald McNair Magnet School in Cocoa, Florida.
