RICK SPIELMAN SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION; RON LABADIE NAMED COLLEGE SCOUTING DIRECTOR AS DOLPHINS ANNOUNCE CHANGES IN PLAYER PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT

MIAMI
Rick Spielman, the Dolphins’ Vice President-Player Personnel, signed a one-year contract extension through the 2003 season, the team announced today. Spielman, 38, joined the Dolphins on May 3, 2000.

Also on Wednesday, the Dolphins named Ron Labadie as their Director of College Scouting. The 52-year old Labadie has served as the Dolphins’ midwest scout since 1990. Before that, he was the head coach and athletic director at Adrian (Mich.) College from 1982-89.

The Dolphins also announced several other changes in their pro and college personnel departments for the 2001 season. Tom Braatz, the team’s Director of College Scouting since 1992, will now serve as a scout for the club, covering colleges throughout the country.

John Crea (pronounced CRAY), who served in the scouting department of the New York Giants since 1992, was named as the Dolphins’ midwest area scout. A native of Staten Island, New York, the 49–year old Crea served as a collegiate head coach at William Patterson College (1982-86) in New Jersey and at Methodist College (1987-91) in Fayetteville, North Carolina prior to joining the Giants.

Adam Engroff, 26, who has spent the past two seasons in the team’s college scouting department, was named as college scouting coordinator. He will scout the northeast portion of the country for the Dolphins and will also assume additional administrative responsibilities in the team’s college scouting department.

Nate Sullivan, who has worked in the Dolphins’ pro personnel department since 1997, will serve as a pro scout. In his role, the 30–year old Sullivan will help evaluate talent in the NFL and other professional leagues. He also will have additional assigned duties in the college area as well.
