DOLPHINS NAME GEORGE PATON DIRECTOR OF PRO PERSONNEL

MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today named George Paton as their Director of Pro Personnel, the club announced.  Paton (pronounced PAY-ton), joins the club after spending each of the last four seasons in the player personnel department of the Chicago Bears.

With Miami, Paton will be responsible for monitoring the rosters of all 31 NFL clubs, as well as the rosters of teams in all other professional leagues.  He also will serve as an advance scout for the Dolphins’ next opponent.

“George is bright, he is a hard worker and he is familiar with our grading system,” said Dolphins Head Coach Dave Wannstedt.  “All of these things will make for a very smooth transition.”

Paton served as a pro scout in his first three years (1997-99) with the Bears, before being elevated to Assistant Director of Pro Personnel last season.  During his tenure in Chicago, Paton was involved in evaluating players in all professional leagues, advance scouting, free agency and the NFL Draft.

Paton was a four-year letterman (1988-91) as a defensive back at UCLA, where he was a part of two Bruin teams that earned Bowl berths.  Upon graduating with a degree in history in 1992, Paton played in professional football leagues in both Italy and Austria.  Following that, he went into computer sales while also working as an assistant football coach as his prep alma mater, Loyola High School in Los Angeles.  In 1996, in addition to his coaching duties, he also served as a producer for a high school football show that aired on Fox Sports Net Los Angeles.

Paton was born on May 5, 1969 in Los Angeles.
