Gedney to receive courage award

Former Cardinals tight end Chris Gedney and three other athletes will receive this year's Gene Autry Courage awards Monday night at the Buttes Resort in Tempe.

The awards are presented by the Tempe Sports Authority and the Anaheim Angels' "Angel Care" program.

Gedney returned to the NFL in 2000 after missing the previous season due to ulcerative colitis, a condition that required major surgery. Also receiving awards are Erik Compton, a top-ranked amateur golfer who has undergone a heart transplant; Carlos Moleda, a wheelchair triathlete; and Dave Benney, a blind high school wrestler.
