NFL DAY AT THE MOVIES SCORES FOR CHILDREN NATIONWIDEPartnering with Loews Cineplex Entertainment,NFL teams and players extend community outreach to the movies
New York, NY, January 4, 2001 — The NFL regular season concludes this weekend, but the players’ involvement in their communities continues. As part of the season-long NFL Tuesdays program, a number of teams and players will join with Loews Cineplex Entertainment to present the first NFL Day At The Movies on January 8. Designed to give back to the NFL's youngest fans, children will be treated to special screenings Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Teams participating with this nationwide initiative are Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks. Each team will have players at the screening at selected Loews Cineplex theatre to greet the kids and introduce the film. In addition to Paramount Pictures contribution of the film, Loews Cineplex has donated the screen time as well as complimentary popcorn and soda for every child attending. The NFL’s playoff campaign, “In Their Own Words,” also will be presented. The campaign features current and former NFL players and coaches describing, in their own words, what the playoffs mean to them. Tuesday is the traditional day off for NFL players during the season. It is the day used by players to escape the rigors of pro football and get reacquainted with rest and relaxation. But many players also use their day off to “go to work” in their communities. In the 2001 season, the NFL highlighted these day-off community endeavors with a program entitled “NFL Tuesdays.” The program is designed to raise awareness, both locally and nationally, about the day-off charitable work of NFL players and coaches. “For years, NFL players and coaches have been working extensively in their communities on their day off,” says NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. “While many of us use our two-day weekend to relax, countless NFL players and coaches use their one day off during the season to give back to their communities. It’s time players received more credit for that.” Every week, the NFL will gather information from its clubs about player and coach activities scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday. The information then will be distributed to media and fans. Following are some of the players and teams who will be participating in NFL Day at the Movies:
