NFL Coaches Edwards, Dungy, and Green Volunteer in D.C.
To Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 21)

 

WHO:             Head coach Herm Edwards of the New York Jets; Tony Dungy, former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; and Dennis Green, former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

 

WHAT:           The coaches join AmeriCorps*NCCC members and community volunteers to paint and landscape at Langston Terrace, one of Washington, D.C.’s most historic dwellings.  The coaches and volunteers will be restoring African friezes, painting murals, and landscaping.

 

WHEN:           Monday, January 21, 2002

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

            Important schedule note: The coaches will be departing immediately at

2:00 p.m. to attend a King holiday reception at the White House.

 

WHERE:        Langston Terrace

                        21st Street and Benning Road, NE in Washington, D.C.

 

WHY:              Coaches Edwards, Dungy, and Green are committed to community service and believe that serving on the King holiday is a fitting way to celebrate the life of Dr. King. 

The coaches recently volunteered their time to produce national television and radio PSAs that challenge all Americans to make the King holiday "A Day ON, Not a Day Off" by serving on the King holiday and beyond.  The PSAs were produced for the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that supports service through AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Learn and Serve America.  To view the PSAs or get more information, visit www.nationalservice.org.
